The Viking - West Watford

Welcome to The Viking - West Watford, a destination for hearty meals and comforting dishes, nestled at 73 Tolpits Lane, Watford. This cafe has established itself as a local favorite, renowned for its enticing range of fish and chips, succulent kebabs, and flavorful burgers—all served with generous portions and a dash of personality.

When you step into The Viking, you can’t miss the inviting aroma of freshly cooked seafood and grilled meats. The highlight of the menu is undeniably the Fish & Chips. Their large cod, presented with a secret recipe batter, is a must-try. Priced at £14.70, it's more than just a meal; it’s an experience that brings the essence of traditional British cuisine to the table. Opt for the Fish Supper, a classic offer that includes a portion of chips and a choice of mushy peas or curry sauce—both quick recommendations that showcase the cafe's commitment to hearty, fulfilling meals.

Beyond fish, the diverse kebab options bring a touch of the Mediterranean to Watford. The Viking Special Kebab at £22.40 is a generous platter featuring chicken shish, lamb shish, kofte, and doner meat, all served beautifully with toasted pitta bread and fresh salad. This dish is perfect for sharing or treating yourself after a long day.

And if you’re in the mood for something crispy, their Flaming Chicken Tenders (£5.50) offer a delightful kick, adding a bit of zest to any ordered meal. Vegetarian options, like the crispy McCain’s Vegetable Burger (£9.00), ensure that everyone's palate is catered to.

A quick tip: Don’t overlook the Oreo Fritters (£2.50) for dessert. They are the perfect sweet finish to an otherwise savory feast!

While The Viking excels in many areas, customer feedback sometimes reveals room for improvement, particularly in consistency. Some patrons have expressed disappointment with non-traditional offerings, such as pasties or 'saveloys' that miss the mark. However, the cafe's friendly staff is keen to ensure that your dining experience is memorable—as they serve food made from passion and pride.

Whether you’re a local or just passing through Watford, The Viking - West Watford welcomes you with open arms and plates full of appetite-satisfying dishes that linger in your memory long after the last bite. For takeaway or dining in, grab your family or friends and experience the warmth and flavors that this establishment has to offer!

Ordered a Cornish pasty with small chips and coke, got a beef and veg pasty that is mushy inside and hard outside and a kids portion of chips. Absolutely disgusted! In response, I’m well aware what a Cornish Pasty is, it is- beef, swede (called turnip in Cornwall), potato and onion, with a light seasoning of salt and pepper. Your pastry had peas and other veg in. If I had truly got what I ordered then I wouldn’t have been refunded.Absolutely disgusting response, rather than apologise you try to question my intelligence. Laughable. Compare a Ginsters Cornish Pasty to the crap you sent and you’ll see the difference. There isn’t a single British person out there who would disagree with me. I’ve also added a picture of what the inside looked like.

Newish customers here, was always ok until tonight, got a takeaway when I come home I’ve opened it to find this disgusting saveloy, first of all it doesn’t obviously look appealing all the tears in it then opened it up it looks like yesterdays recooked or something and it stunk! Really cheeky considering we are very good customers and was meant for my year old son thank god he never went to eat it! Won’t be returning!
